Somehow less than expected but in the end more moving than I have anticipated at the beginning of the novel. The style is different, sometimes confusing and the characters, especially in the past seem like mere comic joke characters, always so exaggerated in their behaviours and traits.Nonetheless it transports the feeling very well and is a good way to deal with a topic on one hand so overdealt that I would never have chosen to read this if I knew in advance and on the other still so in need of being communicated again and again to raise awareness. Foer touches the verge without all the lecturing or boredom of repeated facts. It is different. Interesting. Touching. And taken with a little smirk once in a while.

I had to read this book for a college class on "The Family" and it is the best novel I read for class, period. It is very touching and incredibly sad but at other times makes you laugh. There is also an audiobook available I can only highly recommend.

I laughed so much at this book, will definitely read it again! A lot of the storyline is sad, of course anything that happens during the holocaust is bound to bring a tear to your eyes, but the lightness of the modern day story as well as the funny way which Alex writes/talks made me laugh out loud.

spannendes Buch.Man braucht allerdings ein bisschen Durchhaltevermögen, da es parallel in drei zeiten spielt und man sich viele Namen merken muss

Habe das Buch nur verschenkt. Kann also nur was zur optik und zumVersand sagen. Beides war tadellos und der Beschenkte hat mirim Nachhinein vor allem vom Witz des Buches vorgeschwärmt.

Habe das Buch schon mehrmals gelesen. Es ist witzig, traurig, tragisch, interessant, seltsam, skurril und schön. Abgefahrene Geschichte, verschachtelt und mit Protagonisten, die man lieben lernt. So ein Buch kann nicht jeder dahergelaufene Autor von Liebesromanen oder Balleractiongeschichten schreiben.

Buch ist anspruchsvoll geschrieben, aber total interessant.Als Buch zum Film klasse !!! :-)Ist Schullektüre in der Oberstufe. Man kann Unterricht auch so gestalten.

Rein theoretisch wäre dieses Buch sehr spannend, und es hat zugegebenermassen auch enorm witzige Abschnitte, vor allem die Briefe von Alex sind teilweise umwerfend, doch was der Rest soll, das frage ich mich dann doch. Vielleicht habe ich es einfach nicht verstanden, aber manchmal schien es doch, als würde der Text mit Bettgeschichten etwas verlängert. Wegen der packenden Thematik erwartet man leider einfach zu viel.
